Things to see and do

Equal distance from both Aberdeen and Inverness Dufftown is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in the country. Dufftown really is the heart of Malt Whisky country and much of the town tourism is centered on the distilleries, in particular the famous Glenfiddich distillery where visitors can enjoy a detailed tour of the family owned business and have a wee dram at the end. Other popular attractions include the Dufftown Whisky Museum and Speyside Cooperage. The Whisky Line is a steam train that takes tourists on a beautiful route between Dufftown and Keith.

The Local Environment

Dufftown is a wonderful location for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits and Moray is renowned for fishing, shooting, golf, hill walking, mountain biking and has some of the most beautiful long sandy beaches. Skiing is available a short distance away at the Lecht and in the Cairngorms National Park.

The Dufftown Golf Club welcomes visitors to the club house just 1 mile from the town centre. The course is one of the highest in Scotland and boasts 18 holes surrounded by breath taking scenery.

There is easy road access from Dufftown, to the world famous salmon fisheries of Strathspey. Permits for the rivers Fiddich and Dullan may be obtained from outlets in Dufftown. There is also fishing available at Loch Park, Drummuir; Glen Rothes Fishery, Rothes and Arloch of Huntly.

Schools and shopping

Mortlach Primary School is situated in the centre of Dufftown and is attended by both Dufftown and the surrounding country side. The building dates back to 1902, originally serving as a public school for the Parish of Mortlach. Now the school is well equipped with 7 classrooms, a library/general purpose room, a pre-school classroom, large hall and dining room. As for secondary education, Speyside High School, located just 5.7 miles from Dufftown, is a popular choice for those in Dufftown with bus links allowing easy connecting between the Dufftown and the school.

Despite Dufftowns relatively small size it boasts a variety of shops and businesses. There are two supermarkets where groceries can be purchased. Butchers give you a taste for local produce and there are bakeries providing freshly baked breads. The larger towns of Keith (10 miles) and Huntly (14 miles) offer additional shops, supermarkets and secondary schooling. Elgin, the administrative capital of Moray is under 20 miles away with excellent shopping.
